This year's RAICs have been awarded the Certificate of Plenipotentiary for their outstanding contributions to the most challenging season here at Mildred's Lane. Each year, we invite a handful of fellows to staff our efforts throughout the year. During a very shut down season, our sending institutions and colleagues selected the 2020 spring/summer team to learn the fine art and system aesthetics of Workstyles of Mildred's Lane. Their RAIC experience includes aiding the Ambassadors and assisting artists from around the world on projects and sessions swarming around social topics.

These fellows are most recognized for their patience during this season of COVID-19, working collectively, laboriously, creatively domesticating, detailing our relations to the environment and each other, but importantly, taking constant care and maintenance of the artist projects in these deep woods. Thank you.

Thank you to colleagues and institutions supporting these Mildred's Lane RAIC Fellows*:
The Mildred Complex(ity), J. Morgan Puett, Mark Dion, The Cooper Union Center for Career Development Professional Internship Program, The Luminarts Cultural Foundation, and anonymous others.

Thank you to Friends of Mildred's Lane making our one and only session a smooth and successful one: Carla Duarte, Abby Lutz, Leila Gordon, and Barry Puett.

Thank you to Marx for Cats Applied: Caroline Woolard and Leigh Claire La Berge, with contributing artists, Daniel Tucker and Emily Bunker, Marisa Williamson; and with Fellows Brett Wallace, Lee Noble, Hannah Hirsekorn, Barry Puett, and Isabel Jerome.

“….Nothing could be worse than a return to normality. Historically, pandemics have forced humans to break with the past and imagine their world anew. This one is no different. It is a portal, a gateway between one world and the next. We can choose to walk through it, dragging the carcasses of our prejudice and hatred, our avarice, our data banks and dead ideas, our dead rivers and smoky skies behind us. Or we can walk through lightly, with little luggage, ready to imagine another world. And ready to fight for it.”

"We invoke one dualism only in order to challenge another. We employ a dualism of models only in order to arrive at a process that challenges all models. Each time mental correctives are necessary to undo the dualism we had no wish to construct but through which we pass. Arriving at the magic formula we all seek – pluralism = monism – via all the dualisms that are the enemy. The furniture we are forever rearranging."

Update /
Rearranging the Year of ARBOREALITY

Dear Friends,

We continue rearranging our summer in hopes of keeping in tune with the regional protocols during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Please stay in one place, be well, and think of others. When and if our current guidelines are lifted, a range of change will reawaken our senses with a set of new experiences in this bewildering landscape.

We regretfully must postpone most sessions this year into 2021. Under the best circumstances, new hopes are that Mildred's Lane will reopen to limited capacity for July/ August/ September/ October to individuals, couples, families, and small groups becoming Resident-Artists-in- Complex(ity):

      •  Accepting applications for the August Session, Marx for Cats Applied.

      •  Accepting letters of interest for short and more extended stays.

     •  Open for day visits, tours, and talks, with social distancing.

     •  Open Air community events and exhibitions at The Mildred Complex(ity) in nearby Narrowsburg, NY, to be announced.

      •  Sending Institutions, Fellows, and new applicants, please contact Mildred's Lane directly to reschedule accordingly.

      •  AirBnB access will reopen once the current protective guidelines are lifted, as it stands we are currently closed.

In efforts to SUPPORT Mildred's Lane and the artists who contribute to our cause we are soon launching A GUIDE TO THE FIELD site, encouraging you to COLLECT art-works-and-wares. Please share the postings with your friends and colleagues. For further information follow Instagram/ aguidetothefield

For now, we continue to follow all precautions provided by factual sources.

Rearranging the Year of ARBOREALITY

Dear Friends,

We are rearranging our summer schedule. Mildred's Lane will continue accepting applications, although, in this ever-changing world, a new title for your involvement at Mildred's Lane emerges as Resident-Artists-In-Complex(ity).

Our engagement is pushed back at least a month. There is a new schedule, see below. We will practice social distance swarming independently, open-air, and amongst the trees, following new protocols reinforced by the current societal health facts and guidelines.

Keep watching for updates about open sessions as we assess new conditions in the coming weeks. We ask that current fellows rearrange their schedules and self-quarantine before arriving.

Sending Institutions, Fellows, and new applicants, please contact Mildred's Lane directly to reschedule accordingly.

We hope that everyone stays safe and sound while we PAUSE. Meanwhile, follow all precautions provided by factual sources – we will get through this.

Mildred’s Lane Sessions 2020: Update
Year of ARBOREALITY

Dear Friends,

I want to update you about Mildred's Lane Sessions 2020. Honestly, we are in a holding pattern. We have not made any changes in our summer schedule. We hope that everyone is safe and sound while we just PAUSE.

Session Leaders and Fellows should contact me directly about each individual case concerning travel this summer. Though Mildred's Lane is deep in the Upper Delaware River woods, socially engaging in small groups, we are still taking all precautions provided by governing sources.

All Sending Institutions supporting FellowsResident-Artists-in-Complex(ity), or Independent Mildred Fellows attending sessions may reschedule visits at any time. We honor your session placeholder deposits which may be applied toward other dates and sessions throughout the year; allowing for safe travel and gathering. Stay in touch.

Each of us is responsible for making sure that we are not endangering anyone. Please be healthy, stay where you are, kindly think of others, and extend help where you safely can.

Spread ideas, not bacteria.

• Know your risk.
• Know your circumstances. Think of the impact in your community.
• Know what you can do to stay safe.

Meanwhile, Mildred's Lane will join in creating new workstyles toward a safe environment. Above all, practice good health, and be assured Mildred’s Lane will always be here.

Yours truly,

Dear Friends,

We are all being swamped with announcements and information about the COVID-19 pandemic. The more communication there is, the more prepared we are.

Though Mildred's Lane is deep in the Upper Delaware River woods, socially engaging in small groups, we are still taking all the precautions provided by governing sources.

• Know what you can do to stay safe.

Meanwhile, Mildred's Lane will join in creating new workstyles toward a safe environment. Above all, practice good health, and be assured Mildred’s Lane will always be here.

On view from December 15, 2017 to March 25, 2018, Process and Practice: 40 Years of Experimentation pairs evocative items from more than 100 Artist Boxes with the finished works produced in FWM’s Workshop. The selection is drawn from 371 boxes stacked floor to ceiling in the Museum’s archive and from the permanent collection of some 5,000 objects. Finished works too large for the exhibition will be represented by photographs. Videos drawn from FWM’s collection of artist interviews and documentation of artists at work will also be shown in the galleries.

Reassembling Time: The Alternative Pedagogy of Mildred’s Lane

Standing in front of the unfinished Alchemist’s Shack with artist and Mildred’s Lane codirector J. Morgan Puett, I realized that some things can take forever. An art installation-cum-habitation, the shack has been a work in progress for Puett, artist and codirector Mark Dion, artist Robert Williams, and the countless participants who have visited Mildred’s Lane for nearly twenty years.
