The Mildred Complex(ity)
Garnett Puett
Works-in-progress / A brief encounter
37B Main Street
Narrowsburg, NY 12764
Garnett collaborates with honey bees creating apisculptures where sculpture, performance, and insect involvement emerge into wonderous events. He is temporarily in residence at Mildred’s Lane working on a new body of work. We have reserved an apparent gap in our exhibition schedule at The Mildred Complex(ity) to Puett for staging and finishing his apisculptures. We invite you to peer in as you would a vitrine at a zoo, while he accumulates the artworks in the gallery over the coming week.
Garnett Puett was born in 1959 in Hahira, Georgia and is a fourth-generation beekeeper. After studying in the MFA program at Pratt Institute, New York, Puett exhibited extensively in the 1980s and 1990s before relocating to the Big Island, Hawaii with his wife Whendi Grad, to manage their honey business and museum, Big Island Bees.
Puett is in collections including, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C.; Brooklyn Art Museum, New York; The Honolulu State Art Museum, Hawaii; MIT Museum, Cambridge, Massachusetts; Mexico National Art Museum; and The Laumeier Sculpture Park, St. Louis, Missouri, and many others.re soon….
